Ceramic Coatings to Protect Your Boat or RV

Location:

Ballards Stimson Marina & Stabbert Industrial Dry Dock, Seattle

Main Job:

To lay ceramic protection on a 32′ Sea Ray. 2 coats on the entire gel coat, 3 coats to protect the props & outdrive. We will use GlideCoat Ceramic, famous for protecting boats moored in corrosive salt water, with barnacles & algae. Our client has used GlideCoat before with excellent results.

Added Work:

Polish all chrome, treat all fabric (canvas cover) with 303 protectant, polish and remove scratches from plastic in the canvas cover, and detail the cockpit. GlideCoat can be used on glass and vinyl seats as well.

Our Process:

Wash and remove any old wax from vessel. We use a biodegradable gel when working on a boat in the water. After drying the boat, we can start removing the oxidation above the waterline. Light to medium oxidation so our men will start with a gentle oxidation removal compound, and light oxi dual action buffer pad. Removing oxi can create scratches and swirls that will make the next step (polish) more challenging. Easy job removing the oxidation on the SeaRay.

Ready for the polish:

Having a smooth, scratch and swirl free gel coat is extremely important when prepping for the ceramic coat. 2 different polishes and pads are used to make the surface smooth and beautiful. Next we wait for the boat to be placed in dry dock next week.

Day 2

Sunny day at the busy Ballard waterfront. Contractors, vendors, and awesome boats everywhere. We will wash the rig again, dry it, then start removing the oxidation below the waterline. Ceramic coating does not go on the bottom paint. No sun exposure below the waterline so the oxidation step goes fast. We polish below the waterline and do a few touch ups above the waterline.

Day 3

The Glidecoat Ceramic is carefully installed. We start at the top and work down.

Day 4

Chrome polished, fabric, plastic and vinyl protection added.
